Young Carers Illustrations Project
Young Carers Illustrations Project

6 May 2025
We are delighted to share our latest video that was filmed by highly talented Japanese documentary filmmaker Mari Yamamoto. After the undoubted success of Ana Graça’s delightful picture book “Young Carers in Bunnyland”, we held a short series of workshops in London with young carers. These were designed to get their ideas for new illustrations and storylines. Ana is now starting work on a second picture book, inspired by conversations with these children.
This short film highlights the importance of identifying young carers at an early age. It also shows Ana using .a traditional form of Japanese storytelling called Kamishibai to engage young carers in conversation.
Eighteen year old Helen Abdullah explains that she was first identified as a young carer at age 5 and how important this was for her. Helen also explains that many young carers miss out because they are not identified for many years and miss out on much needed support.
